In the heart of the enchanting rolling fields, lived a shepherd boy. His life was essentially pure, simple, and honest. His primary duty was mainly to care for his herd of ewes.

Their soft bleating and the murmuring of the breezes through the single tree on the mountaintop were his main companions. Day in day, looking out for his wards imbued in him a feeling of calm satisfaction.

Yet, there were occasional moments of isolation, when the shepherd boy would pine for companionship. During one such occasion out of sheer tedium, the shepherd boy orchestrated a mischievous plot.

Tales of predators prowling on sheep had been around for a while in the village. So, the boy decided to exploit this fear and played a joke on the villagers.

One day he raced into the village yelling “Wolf! There is a wolf preying on my sheep!” The frightened villagers ran up the hills to offer assistance but saw no wolf.

The boy giggled at the puzzle on their faces. This trick continued for a few days more. Yet, one day, a real wolf did come to prey the herd. The shepherd boy ran for aid shouting “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one responded.

Frustrated and alone, the boy fought against the wolf but could rescue only few of his flock. Heartbroken, he returned to the village only to receive a reprimand on honesty and the consequences of dishonesty.
